Ferrari has eliminated the brand of its Russian sponsor, the Moscow-based cybersecurity multinational Kaspersky Lab, from the entrance wing of its 2022 F1 automobile.

The transfer comes after BSI, the German federal cybersecurity authority, warned of the “important danger of an IT assault” because of Kaspersky’s operations within the west.

“The actions of Russian army and intelligence forces, and threats made by Russia in opposition to the EU, NATO and Germany in the middle of the present armed battle, pose a substantial danger of a profitable IT assault,” the company warned.

“A Russian IT producer can perform such offensive operations itself.”

Kaspersky denies any reference to the Russian authorities and argues that the German warning will not be primarily based on an precise analysis of its merchandise.

However Ferrari confirmed that it eliminated Kaspersky logos from its 2022 automobile to “ship a transparent message of assist to the individuals of Ukraine”

Nevertheless, the Italian group made its choice in session with its sponsor, with the Kaspersky contract nonetheless in place.
