Ukraine handed over 9 captured Russian troopers to safe the liberty of the mayor of town of Melitopol, who was detained final week, the Interfax Ukraine information company quoted a senior official as saying on Wednesday.

The workplace of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy earlier stated mayor Ivan Fedorov had been launched however gave no particulars.

“Ivan Fedorov was launched from Russian captivity … for him, Russia acquired 9 captured troopers who had been born in 2002 and 2003. These are literally youngsters,” Interfax Ukraine quoted Zelenskyy press aide Darya Zarivnaya as saying.

Ukraine had stated Fedorov was kidnapped final Friday by Russian forces.
